The upstream o2 sensor connector on my 2008 has rounded ends, not completely square. But everybody thinks LR001459 should be a completely square connector. ??? Which one is it?

Careful. O2 sensors may be calibrated with the lead resistance... they operate on very small voltage delta.
Personally I'd give it a shot, but if it acts up that's probably why. Also I think you may need to crimp, not solder, the wires. IIRC solder can change the resistance enough to matter.

I think you are thinking about the bias voltage, not the sensor return voltage. The bias voltage from the ECU is indeed small but the return voltage can be within the range of an entire volt. Also, as you said, the ECU is looking for the delta between the values, not specific voltage values. It would be very expensive to produce sensors that always produce the exact same voltage under the conditions that insist inside the exhaust system. I can buy commercial sensors right now that just come with a four-wire pigtail and crimp connectors on each wire.

FWIW, I only buy OEM or Denso O2 sensors. I've had enough problems with other brands over the years to stick to these two options. Rock Auto has the Denso upstream sensors for $192, and they have the correct connector. When I replaced one of the cats on my LR2 5 years ago after a failed ignition coil took it out, I used the Denso O2 sensor and it's been fine ever since.

Look at the picture I posted. This sensor will not connect in my car's socket at the top of the engine.
I did. Of the two pictures you posted, the Denso sensor has the first type of connector, which is the same as what my LR2 came with from the factory. With that, I was just answering your original question.
That that's not the connector yours has is definitely weird. Do you have a picture of the actual connector on yours that you can share? I have a bunch of O2 sensors from various vehicles in my shop, so maybe I can identify a part number on one that matches your connector.

Yes, I get that. But I think we're talking past each other here. It's not clear from your posts if the connector you actually have is either of the two you pictured. Hence my confusion.
