Opening the rear hatch without removing the key from the ignition?

well…. its not in my manual and it doesnt work. Seems like a practical feature was dropped.
The Unlock button does unlock the rear hatch of course, but to release the latch, the rear button must be pressed.

You have to press and hold both buttons at the same time for a few seconds until you hear the latch release. It works that way to prevent an unintended release. It's on page 44 of the owner's manual.

i understand that. and tried as you have all suggested. The buttons on the ‘13 also don’t look like that.

Yes, the 2013 has a slightly different layout, but it still has the lock and unlock buttons on the dash. So holding both of them for 3 seconds does not open the rear hatch?

I'll be damned. I downloaded the 2013 Owner's Manual and sure enough, it looks like some damn fool took out that feature.

You must be kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any change like this in a luxury car is an upgrade.

You have to pay extra now that the feature was removed.

Undoubtedly they integrated the feature in some other way that isn't useful.

What about your key fob?

I have a hatch release button, what about 2013 LR2 do you have one?

I think the FOB button does exactly the same thing that pushing LOCK/UN LOCK for 5 seconds does

Does the 2013 key dock or can you start your LR2 with the key in your pocket?

If yo can start you LR2 with your key in your pocket why can't you use the button on the key FOB (Did they UPGRADE that too?????)

Good luck

Paul

You can't push the rear hatch release button on the FOB while it is inserted in the slot.

I've driven a 2015 model and used the newer style fob, it just has to be near the dock not actually in it. It can be in your pocket. I am making an assumption that the 2013 version is likely very similar.

You know, we really need a separate forum for 2013+ LR2's. They really are sufficiently different from the older models to justify that.

I frequent the ToyotaNation forum and they have separate forums for different generations of Camry's.

greetings All.
To be clear, there is no dock for the fob in the 2013. There is a sensor under the steering column but we have never had a need to place the fob against it.
Yes, of course there is a latch button on the fob for the rear tailgate.
But how often is the fob in my hand once I’m seated in the vehicle… never. The fob remains in my pocket. There should be a button on the dash or on the door panel…. clearly an oversight.
Jeepers… I may have just justified a need fir the new defender…. following some depreciation, of course

Cheers!
