Default Parking Brake replacement

The rear brake shoes on the drum-in-hat parking brake get little use compared to the regular brakes. Has anyone replaced their parking brake shoes or hardware?

Yes. But I found out that in my car the cables were seized inside the conduits so I took it to a mechanic who did it for me. The parking brake can also be adjusted, the hardware is under the cap in the rear of the center console.

I did, three+ years ago, when I first bought the 2008 LR2 used, after totaling my previous ride (I was in really rough shape at the time). I got it from LR (it was in stock) and it was not cheap. I don't remember exactly but there was a kit. I believe I also replaced the adjusters but in hindsight, that was unnecessary. Lots of kits available online, even Raybesto(?) you could not go wrong with.

If I remember correctly, the cable kit and brake pads were cheaper at the dealer than eBay. Surprised me. Must have been a full moon aligned with at least 3 planets that day.

If it adjusts and works properly, probably no need to replace... like you said it doesn't get used much.

Unless maybe you live somewhere with a lot of water, snow, salt on the roads.

For reference, the brake shoe kit is LR001020. If the shoes are good and you just want to replace the hardware, the springs kit is LR001023.

Don't forget the parking brake cables. LH is LR014431. RH is LR007496

And the final bit, which goes without saying; start actively using the parking brake. Its the inactivity that leads to the ceasing of the cable.
