I assessed the risk as so low as to not warrant R&R and disassembly of the PTU. If I'm wrong it's a few hundred bucks for a used one and a few hours of my time. And I can then drill it out properly.

I would not do this on an aircraft FWIW. Or anything really expensive.

I treat safety the same regardless of whether it flies or rolls, cheap or expensive. Enough said. You guys can knock yourselves out with this.

If it starts to whine, I'd replace it. The failure mode isn't instantaneous with no warning.
