05 lr3 whining noise
Sorry about your holiday crap cake. Hopefully this will get resolved. The whining is often an indicator on any vehicle the alternator is getting ready to give up the ghost. Mine started whining a while back, faint, but it's there, so it's only a matter of time.
An issue I just finished was replacing the alternator. It was making all the noises you say it is making especially the whining noises heard while pressing on the accelerator. I went to my local parts store and asked them to do a battery and alternator check for me (which is free) and came up with a diode short in the alternator. This means that the charging regulation of the electrical system will not stay st 14 volts because a diode ask like a gate for current. So you can get 13 volts charging at one minute and 15 volts the next. Neither is good for the LR3. I ordered an alternator off flea bay and change it out in 2 hours(did not remove the wheel, fan, or engine skid plate. Change it out soon, it will only damage the truck.
Thanks everyone. Really thanks for the support My two month old Interstate Battery is dead, has been tested yesterday at 2 chainstores. Now IB is testing it. So maybe they replace it or I buy a new one. More icing...
Sorry to hear about the alternator. Does anyone have experience with the ACDelco reman unit? RockAuto has it for several hundred less than a few other sites.
My whining/thrumming noise under load (and likely jmeyers278) ended up being the rear drive shaft. Was looking at the undercarriage and saw a line of grease sprayed out on the body. Could not actually see the rupture because of the angle until I took the old unit off. That issue is discussed here: https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr...problem-55494/

The battery was replaced at no charge. A blessing nothing comes free in Rover world...except the forum. Thank God! Hubby mentioned the noise I still hear from the tensioner being replaced depends on how they installed it. Wether it is too tight...I am not sure. But I will continue to monitor it. Thanks again.
