Hi,

Car has been without any issues for a while and driving well.

On Sat, after starting up, all normal until I pressed the brake pedal, then the car cut out. I have tried on several occasions but this keeps repeating. Battery is a couple of months old, showing 12.7 when cold and up to 14.40 when idling.

Note: Car only cranks occasionally, often as I turn the key half way, the wipers and hazards come on????

Any thoughts most welcome

Hi, and to add, my code reader just showed error: "lost communication with ECM/PCM A "

 

The likely culprit is the brake light switch. Part number options are here:

Also confirm that the proper tail light bulbs are installed. The filaments need to run vertically when in the sockets.

 

This sounds like the behavior of a failing remote start system. Do you know if it has a remote start? Have you look up under the steering column area for any third party modules/wiring? You may also want to pull the battery out and uncover then inspect the modules behind it. If the battery was not installed right, or the previous, the outgassing can cause tons of corrosion issues.

Switch the unit but alas no help

Now, when I turn the ignition half way, wipers and hazards come on + red perking brake warnoing. ALl othe accessories work: Radio, door locks, sunroof etc.

Car does not even try to start at this point

Any clues regarding this???

Well, bummer. Do you have a way to pull codes?

There are things like a bad instrument cluster that can cause these symptoms, but it’s just guessing. If you smack the dash near the cluster or punch the reset button on the cluster and it all of a sudden starts, you may have found your culprit.

Codes would be helpful at this point.

Does it have trailer wiring? Even if not obvious, open the access panel wayyyyyyy in back and check for install of wiring.

 

Did you ever check connections behind battery?
