Hi I picked up a 2006 lr3 the other day, and the suspension is bottomed out. I think there is an issue with the electrical there by it popping the 60A fuse. It also shows hdc transmission and engine fault on the dash but the codes read vss on the right rear wheel. Are all the issues in having outside of the suspension system related to the vss. I have already replaced the alternator thinking it was the ac ripple issue. I'm not sure how long this has been going on so it could have fried something along the way. Any pointers anyone might have would be helpful. Thank you.

 

Get an IIDTool by GAP Diagnostics. Then read codes and report back. While you wait for it to be delivered, go check the passenger side floor for dampness...water ingress can wreak havoc.

 

If that tool carried a easier to swallow price tag I'd be inclined to get one. I have a standard obd tool that can pull the codes and that one has the following codes popping up.
P0500-00 Vehicle speed sensor A permanent
C003A-00 Right rear wheel speed sensor.

if anyone else has ideas of where I can start or what the cause might be if not the speed sensors. Please let me know, but I am not at this time able to buy that tool. If there are other tools that are better please let me know if they are in the 100 to 200 dollar range. I can't justify 700.

 

Last I checked it's $500....and with it, you can calibrate that wheel speed sensor you need, and pay for about 2/5 of it right there. I know it's a chunk of change, but it pays for itself in a short time. Having an LR3 without an IIDTool (or equivalent, there are other good ones) is like trying to be a Plumber without a pipe wrench.

 

Wheel speed sensors can be calibrated? I did not know they even needed to be.

Check the wheel speed sensors (ABS sensors) for damage to wiring, obviously the right rear has an issue.

And only the GAP is worth getting, hands down. It reads all the Rover specific codes.

 

*If* you can read all the Land Rover detail codes and live data with your scan tool you'll be fine probably.

Is it still blowing a fuse?
A speed sensor problem will definitely make the electronics/stability control/suspension etc throw a fit.

 

Thank you I didn't check it out yesterday. I will crawl around it today and see what I can find. I'm not sure how you calibrate a static sensor either. Unless you're calibrating the computer that covers the sensors.
My tool reads codes and live data.

 

I thought they could (be calibrated) but I could have been thinking wheel/steering angle sensors.

 

That could be, my understanding of those is that they are more like electronic limit switches. So that would make sense.

 

Actually they are hall sensors.
