Check the coil grounds. They both need to be attached. There is a ring terminal at the end of each wire. They can be broken off and appear to be just a butt connected wire.

Hello. The garage did a leak down test and cylinders 4 & 5 did not report very well. Now the question at hand is, look for a replacement engine or have the existing rebuilt? After all it’s got a complete set of new timing components. Thoughts, suggestions or cards of sympathy are always appreciated. Thanks. Dave.

Time to go back to the beginning. Why did you want to change the timing components in the first place?
1) Complete failure to where the engine would no longer run?
2) Engine was still running fine just making rattling noise?
3) Other?

Hi.

It was running well. A rattling noise started. It was scoped and the verdict was timing components were failing or failed.

Engine was removed and they found the assessment to be correct.

All the timing components were replaced.

When they put everything back together it would not run. It would turn over but would run.

The mechanic looked for outside help. He found out he did not have all the special tools required. They got the tools in and redid the job.

After that it would run, but badly. Which is where this thread started.

I believe it is possible they damaged the engine during attempt #1 before they had the special tools. Again it was running well, just noisy prior to the work.

Ive since reached out to a company in Toronto Canada who rebuilds engines. They are familiar with this engine and have done a few. So I think that’s where we are heading. The quote is $5500 Cdn, remove, rebuild, install and test. I figure I would include this info because I know someone is going to ask the question. Ha.

Interference motor. If the timing was not set properly on that bank, then the valve train bent and that’s why you have issues on that bank.
