Default Accelerated hard and almost lost control when the truck lurched left to right...

Was pulling out of a lane from a dead stop in traffic and had to gun it a bit to get over to the exit lane on the highway. My wheels were turned a bit when I accelerated but then as i straightened it out the whole truck lurched left and right. Almost felt like I lost some steering for a couple seconds. Almost stopped to see of I had two flat tires or something.

Any ideas?

Possible that your steering angle sensor is going bad but that's uncommon and it should self-check with an implausible error and trigger a CEL. In theory this might trigger a false DSC action if it thought the vehicle was out of control.

Without more information this one will be impossible to diagnose on the forums though. Did the DSC light come on? ABS? Are all your bushings solid and you have a good alignment, good tire pressures etc?

Is this a commonly driven route for you? I ask because out where I live there is this one turning lane where the line is raised and catches my front tire and gives me a lil tug. Feels like if you hit a puddle and you had to over correct a little bit.

Thanks guys. The exit was pretty straight and flat. Didn't notice any DSC or other errors since I was wrestling it back into a straight line. Really disconcerting but I know it's impossible to diagnose. I'm going to try and recreate it in a safe area. Little concerned about evading somebody turning into me at speed and loosing control of the truck on the highway...

That's really strange - even with errors or malfunctions there are plenty of safeguards that prevent the system from applying uncommanded asymmetrical braking (I guess that's why it's so easy to get your ABS lights to come on )

I've only had anything like this happen once (in my 2006 sport, but very similar) when I dodged a rabbit on a windy road - just over a hill crest (suspension slightly unloaded I guess..) and in a turn, had to turn a little sharper than I planned.. next thing I know I've just about tucked the front right wheel up under the me and it was about to flip over top of it (this was with 35 series 22" stormers by the way!)

Before I even had time to say "oh $hit" the DSC yanked the back of the car out and to the left and hammered the front right to straighten it out up front. It was like someone reached down, picked it up, and placed it back down perfectly straight in the middle of the road.

So anyways the system is very powerful and definitely has the ability to make some dramatic interventions.

@fso: Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to trivialize what you are saying.

With that disclaimer, I think you should really try hard to mentally re-visit the situation and the scene. You might even go back to that exact spot and look at the roadway. The LR3 DOES "tramline" considerably and it's possible that there was some intervention by an electronic system. I would also submit that in the heat of the moment, you probably did something that you do not normally do and are repressing the memory. You may have responded to the dynamics in some way that contributed and are just not remembering. I have a really tough time thinking that the LR3 went rogue on you and if you are going to re-create the situation with "normal" initial conditions and not some sort of variable driver inputs, you're gonna be spinning your wheels (no pun intended).

Ditto, with that being said and my above story in mind, I didn't think that I was ANYWHERE NEAR the limits of the 'sport at the time it happened. Perhaps that was one of the motivating factors for LR to design such a solid stability control system on these.

I had owned nothing but rear wheel drive, manual trans sports cars before that and was very familiar with feeling out a vehicles connection to the road, knowing when to expect understeer/oversteer etc.. even with those 285s I never would have seen that coming in a million years lol.

The physics of a 5800lb vehicle are a totally different animal. LR really went the perfect route going all-aluminum on the new ones.
