Default After 206k Miles Change Water Pump as a Precaution ?

Hi. Thank you as always for helping us keep LR3 going.
I was thinking if I should change Water Pump as a precaution now
at 206,000 Miles ? We know a guy with around this much milage with similar Range Rover Sport
who's Water Pump has just failed.
I don't want any chance of it going and blowing our engine,.
My main question is while in there what else should be changed as a good idea.
Many thanks

I'm about to do my cooling system at about 154k miles. Not because it needs it, but because it's more convenient for me to go through it at a time and place of my choosing rather than being forced to. It's really hard to predict when things will fail without more data points. At 200k miles it's not a terrible idea. While you're in there you might do belts and hoses too, and the thermostat/housing since it's plastic.

Won't hurt. I would get a scangauge or something like that so you can keep an eye on temps real time and not go off of a gauge. This way if the pump does fail, you won't be too late to catch it. I watch trans and engine temps closer than I watch my speed.

Seems like a good preventative decision to me.

Just make sure you get a replacement that comes with the metal gasket and not the paper one. The paper gasket is all but guaranteed to leak like a sieve within a year

I'm a fan of the 1 piece AC Delco water pump myself.

The pump is easy to replace. I would certainly do it. In fact, I STILL have to do mine. AC Delco pump ready to go in. But I will also be performing a full cooling system flush with citric acid. And I will be installing a block heater.

I ordered the Atlantic British AirTex Water Pump and two belts.
In the past Abran wrote that some sort of grey stuff should be put around metal gasket ?

AirTex has a high failure rate. With that said, they seem to make two versions. I believe Aritex was OEM and the OEM pump is relatively expensive. Then they seem to have an economy one which is very prone to failures. I never put stuff on a water pump gasket. Makes replacement less fun since you have to clean the surface that much better.

Ok..thanks.
The original one in the car has been going for 206k miles.
I hope the OEM one I got from Atlantic British is the same unit..it was only $119 or so.
There's a better one ?

I believe the one by Atlantic British is the OEM and not the economy one found on places like RockAuto and Amazon. That one is about $36 bucks. Either that or Atlantic is putting a 4x markup on the economy version. But they do list it as the OEM pump.
