Is the blue square on the temperature dials supposed to be illuminated?

Mine aren't. I've seen others that are.

 

Is is still off when you turn on the lights?

Yes, the red and blue illuminate.

 

Yes. I have the lights set to auto and they're always off even if I take the lights off auto

 

I think they are supposed to be illuminated when the lights are on. The **** is made out of clear plastic covered with a dark coating with the exception of that little slot. The LED is on the circuit board and shines up through the shaft portion of the ****.

Unless you are comfortable working on SMT components on the circuit board, you can learn to live with it not glowing or get a new HVAC control head.

I'm not going to mess with the circuit board. Fortunately, being in Florida I rarely change the temperature, so I can live with the way it is.
