Yes, that is all too common. The crack usually manifests itself between the two air hose connections. You can purchase a new dryer cap machined out of billet aluminum off of e-bay. Guaranteed not to crack. Can't remember how much they are, but I think it was in the $50-$70 range.

New AMK compressor installed, no more faults. Can run through all of the special programs, raise/lower, etc. I'll pull all of the fuses this weekend and re-test the drop.

Cool. It seems like there have been quite a few stories recently of air leaks at the compressor!

So... what are you doing with the old one now? Don't throw it out!

Considering selling it on eBay for parts. Bums me out I just rebuilt it and ended up having to replace it. Perhaps someone can use it for parts.

They let you leave with that?...or did you DIY?

I'd think there'd be some kind of core on that.

I know a LR dealership that throws a couple old hitatchis away every week. They set one aside for me that looked brand new compared to mine that lived in the northeast saltbelt and submerged in mud occasionally. I replaces the dryer agent and works great!

Okay so now I'm picking up a sentiment that people want to hang on to their Hitachis....what's the motivation? Cost? Slider fitment?

I know that I dreaded having to go to the AMK but now that it's behind me, I don't live with the specter that today could be the Hitachi's last. ...and that's nice.
