Yes, that is all too common. The crack usually manifests itself between the two air hose connections. You can purchase a new dryer cap machined out of billet aluminum off of e-bay. Guaranteed not to crack.

Considering selling it on eBay for parts. Bums me out I just rebuilt it and ended up having to replace it. Perhaps someone can use it for parts.
I know a LR dealership that throws a couple old hitatchis away every week. They set one aside for me that looked brand new compared to mine that lived in the northeast saltbelt and submerged in mud occasionally. I replaces the dryer agent and works great!
Okay so now I'm picking up a sentiment that people want to hang on to their Hitachis....what's the motivation? Cost? Slider fitment?
