Default Alarm sounding for no reason

I apologize if this has been covered before. I did a search but could not find anything.

My car alarm has been activating for no reason. It is when the vehicle is locked and no one is around it. I cannot find any other commonality other than that. It will happen maybe once or twice a week. As all things electrical on these I am guessing maybe my battery is beginning to go south. Has anyone else dealt with this problem?

Thanks,
Eric

More than likely it is your "bonnet" or hood sensor. It is failing and telling the car someone has opened the hood. See what message is on the dash.

I also had an issue with the ignition thinking the key is still in. The small spring loaded access piece in the ignition that blocks the key was getting hung up. Add some graphite lock lube.

X2 on the bonnet switch. You can either replace it for $40 or cut the 2 wires, splice them together, tape it off and be done forever for free.

Thanks for the input on the bonnet sensor. I didn't even consider that.

Does anyone know if there is a way to see what is causing the alarm to trip with a GAP IID tool? I'm also getting a few random alarms.

Resurrecting this thread as I am fighting this with my 2006. Just sitting in the driveway minding its own business and the alarm starts sounding. I can't tell which switch is causing the trigger, hood, doors, hatch, etc. There are no history codes I could find to indicate. Live switch data hasn't been reliable as I can't catch it in the act.

I'll definitely take a close look at the hood switches.

Any wisdom is appreciated. I'll report back here if/when I find something.

For what it's worth I bypassed the hood switch on mine ~2 years ago and haven't had a false alarm since. I never found a way to see which sensor was triggering the alarm.

Likely the hood latch sensor. Easy to replace.

my LR3 has a intermittant driver door open message, and if I am foolish enough to lock it the alarm will go off. IIRC, when you see the lights flash when you unlock it to turn off the alarm it means the system believes it has been tampered with.

Thanks everyone for pinpointing my search. I disconnected the hood switch and found a piece of tin foil wedged in the connector as a bypass. I cut and spliced the wires as mentioned above. The switch was definitely dead.
