Well, it took only 3 weeks for the first problem...
The new GPD brand A/C compressor that I installed failed. It worked great since April for 6,000 miles and 4 months during an extremely hot summer in Texas.
While I was in my daughter's college town last month, I did some recon for a local shop, just in case. Found one where the owner had an LR3 project of his own, so I figured I was in a good place. I went in, introduced myself, and told him I hope I don't need him, except for an oil change or maybe some small stuff.
I don't know exactly what happened to the compressor, but they replaced it for a reasonable cost and she's got cold air again!
I don't have the old part for an autopsy, so I can only guess on the cause of failure. The shop said it was leaking at the front seal:
I may have overcharged.
That little note that said something like, "stand the compressor upright on the pully before installing in order to wet the front seal" was really important. I read it at first, then forgot to do it before install.
Misfires on #3 and #4, P0303 and P0304.
Injector Circuit Open on #4, P0204.
Same shop did a coil swap to confirm bad coil. They had a parts cost break for a full set of 8 coils for about the cost of 3. I opted to have them replace all 8 coils and the #4 injector. So far so good. Not sure what brand parts they used.
It kills me have to have a shop do this work, but I am happy they're able to keep my daughter on the road! Wife says, "3 strikes and she needs a different car." Then I told her about all the high-priced LR3 sales on Bring-a-Trailer. Still not convinced. Then we got these pics. I think our daughter is having fun!
Your daughter is a very blessed girl. You’ve done so much to this Rover, I think you should be answering the questions… not asking them. two things I think you should’ve replaced on this Rover, are the windshield cowl and the front sunroof drain tubes. These two things cause major water damage and electrical gremlins. Replace all O2 sensors and the MAF? Great for MPG.
Your wife can say all she wants about these repairs. Anything that is mechanical will break down. Anything with technology will have faults. The luxury, safety and performance out weigh the problems. Toyotas break down too and don’t have awesome air suspension, sunroofs, heated seats, leather, refrigerated arm rests… etc. plus a lot of this is easily fixed.
