Default Battery replacement

When I went to Sears to get a Die Hard battery at the Costa Mesa, CA location, they said that they didn't make it for the 2006 LR3. Is that true? My alternative option was Interstate.

What are you all using as replacements?

There IS a battery in the DieHard Gold line that is specced for the LR3, the H7/94R.

Most consider the Interstate MTP-49/H8 to be a better choice.

Just measure the space and get the platinum that fits. You don't need to tell them what it's for.

There is a thread on one of the LR forums (sorry can't remember) about trying to install a Platinum. The end result was there is no Platinum that fits without messing with longer cables and different terminal clamps. The guy ended up returning it and getting the Gold listed above.

And people have commented about using another battery with jumper cables to keep power on the system while the real battery is swapped out.

You would want a batter that is comparable to the H8 (49) family. From what I understand, there are only a few battery manufacturers (ie. Johnson Controls), with everybody rebadging them. Here are specs from the Interstate website:

I went to a different Sears shop that knew more about batteries than "going by the book". Turns out, there is a Die Hard battery that fit. I'll post a pic and specs later.

It was just above the Gold at 800 CCA instead of 750 CCA for the Gold.

Interstate Only!!! I learned my lesson the hard way. They are much better than the OEM and great performance with a winch installed.

Default The PWM regulator design prefers the Interstate.

The Interstate is what I installed as it is the easy choice.

The Pulse Width Modulated signal design of the regulator within the alternator is designed for the CaCa chemistry of the Interstate battery, (or maybe it is the other way around.)

Deka Battery of Pennsylvania also makes a similar chemistry battery but I am not so certain that Sears does. What I am saying is that amps and whatever else is only part of the equation when it comes to choice of battery for the 3.

The electrical system of the 3 is so fussy that the fewer variables, the better.

As to size, the MTP-H8 is what is called for but the less long MTP-H7 fits better and is what most LR dealers install under warranty. Also the battery vent hose must be hooked up or the Transmission Computer will suffer.

The link below has a number of data sheets and the like on the various batteries.
