belts and pulleys
I have a 2006 LR3 and it's time to replace the belts and pulleys. The pulley is wearing out and becoming noisy so in replacing it i'm going to put two new belts on it at the same time. Anyone do this procedure and have any advice on the best way to do it? Do i have to remove the radiator fan if so what is the best way too do so?
Thanks

RE: belts and pulleys
I assume that it is squeaking. What is the mileage? There is a bulletin about this issue. It requires modification of the fan pulley bracket, a new FEAD belt and revised FEAD belt idler pulley. Yes, you do need to remove the fan. Ask your local dealer about this. If
your vehicle is still under standard factory warranty, then they will cover this procedure.

I have a LR3, 2006 also. Mileage is 94K. There is a low squeaking, but my consern is that the belt idler pulley (tenssioner?) is vibrating.
Along with this, I get an intermitent battery alert. The alternator is giving out the 14v that it is supposed to, but sometimes I get the fault and the voltage drops to 13.6, which is not that bad.
Do tou think these are related?

if you get the battery light on and the fans turn on then the alternator is bad. they have a tendency to go bad with the light on but still intermittently charge.
you can change the alternator without taking off the belt from all the pulleys just the alternator. if you want to change the belts and the pulleys you need the tools to pull the fan clutch off and to take off all the tensioners and pumps to get the belts off. plus you need a grinder to grind away the part for the new tensioner.

highly doubt you will need to update your pulley , the idler pulley was a bigger problem in LM range rovers as they would squeel when cold since the belt would slightly wonder causing the noise. Now as far as your procedure it is very ease you will have to remove the fan assembly and remove the bracket that attaches the fan to the front of the engine. You will have to loosen the first drive belt as well . should take you no longer than an hour.
