Default Brake Pad Sensor

What's it for? I mean, besides the obvious. A few months back, took my LR3 into the dealer because the brakes were squeaking. Dealer said the brakes needed replaced. They said it wasn't completely necessary at the time, but soon. No warning lights or anything then, still nothing. Just wondering if the sensor isn't what I assume it is for.....

Oh, 2006 V8 w/ 26000.

Thanks, Jodi

thats what it is, it goes off when theyre pretty low, lower then would pass a saftey inspection. its just a constant reminder for you to get them replaced when they are almost gone. generally you need them before the light goes on. in VA the state says pads have to be over 3mm to pass saftey insp, but the sensor doesnt trip until about 1.5mm.

Interesting...I just picked up my used LR3 this past Sunday and noticed the brake light was on and there was a little sqeaking occasionally. Dlr said it passed inspection so shouldn't be happening. I am going to request the inspection report and see what it says. Thanks for the specs to watch for.

Got ahold of the dealer and the front pads are new, back pads are 1.5-2 and they passed it anyway when they sold me the LR3. I think they knew they goofed as they offered to replace without being asked. Will have to make sure they know that the sensors have to be replaced as well since it is a non-Landrover dlr. Thanks to the board for the education.
