Angry Breaks HOWLING in reverse ('06 LR3)

Title says it all. Whenever wet or damp, my breaks squeal like a pig ONLY when going in reverse. Not a little either, that would be acceptable, I'm talking "my neighbor 3 houses down asking me what the hell that noise is" squeal. It sounds like someone stomped on a dog's tail. It's just terrible.

For those of you who are going to tell me, "yeah, it's common, breaks wear one way 99.999999% of the time," that doesn't really solve my problem. The problem is the noise. It's deafening and honestly embarrassing if I'm backing up in public.

Any thoughts?

try pinpointing whether it is front or rear brakes, then try taking them apart to clean and inspect pad/rotor wear. Maybe your calipers are sticking?

Maybe try a bit of this on the back of the pads?

They shouldn't. Is it only when applying them or backing up in general?

Mine don't quite howl, but if it's been snowing or raining and I back out of my driveway sometimes I'll hear a low moan from them. I just chalked this up to rust on the rotors.

personally i use CRC disc brake quiet on the back of every pad i install, available at auto zone or advanced auto; it eliminates most all disc brake chatter or squeal.
