Default A/C Problem

I just bought my LR3 and I have loved it. I have had the "farting" noise coming from behind my glove box that I was preparing to fix. My A/C worked perfectly. But, today it went from great to hot.
It blows strong, hot air no matter what setting it is on. Is it possible that I just need a recharge? The funny thing is that it no longer makes the farting noise and I can tell that the valve door that was squeaking it no longer moving.
I am hoping that it isn't moving anymore because the system isn't telling it too because I am lacking coolant in the system. Does that make any sense or is my problem that the door isn't moving? When I cycle the A/C on and off I hear no sounds except the fan coming on. Thanks for the help.

I believe that creaking door is just to block fresh air and recirculate what's in the vehicle. At a stop light it will close every time, I'm sure this is prevent exhaust fumes from other idling cars around you. Then when you accelerate it opens back up. Recharging won't cost much if you do it yourself. I think the system holds about 30 oz. but I can't remember exactly. If you buy a refill kit there's a gauge on there. Try putting a can of refrigerant in and see what happens.
