Default can the LR3 be rekeyed?

Somebody broke into our house last night. Thief stole my wife's purse and computer bag. In the purse was a key to the LR3 (of course it was the replacement key that was only about a year old). Can the LR3 be reyed or reprogrammed? Seems like all the thief needs to do is to walk up, use the stolen key and drive away. Aside from a rekey or reprogram, does anyone have any other thoughts to disable the vehicle? thanks Phil

I think...but I'm not 100% on this, that if you take your LR3 and any keys in your possession to the dealer and have them reprogram them, that any key NOT in your possession and present at the time of reprogramming, will no longer work. Even though the shank would still work...not sure the thief would know about the mechanical door lock hidden in the handle.

So, unless the thief works at the LR Service Department and has the key in his/her pocket at the time of reprogramming, that should "de-program" the stolen key.

thank you. Good to know. LR has a two key set with new cores for the drivers door and the ignition, however, it is about $550 plus programming. Key alone, with a friend deal, $290 plus programming.......dang. Our security system didn't get turned on last night.....Phil

That's awful, sorry to hear about the ordeal.

Since this was the result of a theft, you may be able to claim the cost of re-keying against your insurance.

Ack. That's terrible. I'm sorry.

I think houm is right in that keys that are not with you at the time of a new programming get disabled. I also think that you can do the programming yourself if you have an IID tool. I thought the IID would not pair a new key to the vehicle, but I pretty sure Abran has done it and proven me wrong, so you may want to reach out to him and save a little bit of cash if you already have an IID tool.

I have done it with Autologic, never tried with the IID.

Yes at the time you get them rekeyed at the dealer, if the key is not there it will fit the lock but not start the vehicle. Had it done. Also will not electronically open the doors. It is going to cost you but really it is a small price to pay for keeping your LR.

I have done key programming with the IIDTool. It was quick enough process that I thought the dealers charge WAY too much.
