Added 31.5" Cooper AT's and IIDTool lift.

Yesterday I was preparing a poser shot(not the one in the picture) on a rock(found the only one in FL) and damaged my front rocker/fender. Got the tire on the rock and felt the tip going the other way.. I was safe from a rollover but it sure felt like it was going.. Panicked and crunched it.

Ouch.


Was worth it though.. Great time!


I was shopping for a replacement when I decided to just use a heat gun to reshape it and the door rocker.. Came out nice enough until I bash it again I may install rock sliders even though I live in FL because I actually use my LR3 pretty hard.

 

That came out great!!! I can't even tell.

I hit a rock (because my wife refused to get out and spot me) once with my front bumper right in the corner on the passenger side...put a golf-ball sized dimple in the bumper-cover. It was unsightly and I was pissed.

After trying and failing to push it out and body shops quoting me cost-prohibitive estimates, I did some research, got out a hair dryer and fixed that $hit myself! I was real happy and it looked perfect.

 

I am led to believe then that the dent was your wife's fault and that is why you were annoyed.

That would not play around my place too well so if you got supper that night, you did well.

 

I have come to believe, like Jimmy Buffet, that "it's my own damn fault."

 

FWIW I think sliders are the first mod most should do, at least after tires and a bit of lift. There is precious little break over available on these trucks, and a good set of sliders will serve as skids as well as they'll run all the way inboard to the frame rails.

 

Is there a recommendation on the best sliders? Been looking around and it seems like there are a couple different options from $600-1200. Some seem to have drawbacks (like vibrating or amplifying road noise) and some are steel and others aluminum.

Don, I agree that sliders need to be high on the list. They don't all go far enough inboard to cover the frame rails, however. The Tactical Rover sliders do, I believe...as do the Rover Specialties sliders; the latter I believe are no longer made.

DJ you are probably going to have to just look around on-line. Lucky8 is probably your best source.

 

I'm a fan of the Tactical and yes that's what I'm running. They offer maximum protection and even offer a bit of a step to help getting in/out of the truck when it's lifted (this can help sell the wife in some instances ) Drawbacks? They do make the compressor louder, and if you've been playing in the mud you won't be able to stand anywhere near the truck without getting your pants dirty.
