Considering becoming LR3 owner
Hi All,
I'm in the early research phase of considering an LR3. I don't even have a specific vehicle selected. I did read the sticky threads on this forum about things to look for prior to purchasing (great info, thank you!), but I'd love more advice and recommendations from owners.
I have no prior LR experience at all, but owned a Cherokee many years ago. I've been driving an A4 Quattro for the last ten years, but need to move to a 7 passenger vehicle that can navigate Washington state's toughest back roads and harshest winter conditions (I'm a veteran tire shopper and know most of this is about tire selection on top of an exemplary 4WD system - the Quattro on snows is superb). I've been looking at the LR3 mostly due to price, but want to beware the false economy of a lot of post-sale repairs.
Performance and gas mileage are not concerns.
I'd appreciate any recommendations for or against the LR3 (+ alternatives if you feel strongly), along with any more buying tips. I'm in the Seattle area.
TIA!

The LR3 is a very different beast than the Quattro. It is larger, much heavier, less efficient and considerably more capable. If you need a vehicle only for backroads there are probably other options out there that will make you more happy in the long run. If you need versatility and the capability to traverse technical trails (think Fortune Creek or Liberty) with ease, then the LR3 may be for you.
