Do CV axles need to be replaced after X number of miles?
Basically the title is the question. Previously before I owned the LR3 I owned a Subaru outback. Over 150k Miles it got 2 rear axles and 2 front axles. We replaced them when we noticed a shake in the steering wheel or a rear end vibration. My 3 drives like its brand new. No shakes, thunks, clunks, or gremlins. My question is should I expect the axles to wear out and if so any idea when. Im in the process of getting the car road trip ready for college as I will be driving 1k miles to school at least twice a year.
Thanks!
Thanks!
I'd say they're pretty strong, I'm at 170k miles, and my rear cv boots were torn since 160k miles, but the shafts didn't make any noise, nor did I felt anything driving it around. I'm planning to replace them once I hear or feel anything, let's say how far it would go with torn CV boots.
I had 3 boots tear shortly after I took ownership on my '09 at approx 85-90K. I have no idea what the PO may have done, if anything, to cause this. I replaced all 3 axles before I had any issues with the cv's. In fact, I drove Seattle > Wyoming with a big hole in one and probably little to no grease left inside.
