Default EPB actuator questions

Guys, a shop I’m using for the first time (I know the Manager) is struggling to “program” a park brake actuator on my ‘06. I provided the part; it’s not OEM. I didn’t think that any programming or calibrating was necessary. Apparently with the actuator installed the Rover won’t start and fault lights are on. They out the old actuator in as a test and it fired right up.

…any ideas/advice?

thanks in advance!

Was the module specifically for an LR3? The module itself is on the CAN Bus and if it was for an LR4 then maybe that is the cause? Never tried putting a different bit-rate module on a bus before to see what happens. Also of course some sellers will sell them as working on an LR3 or 4, but that is a lie. Other than that, some say they do need VIN encoding but apparently GAP says that is not true but that was second hand info. Others say it does and that it is part of storing milage and **** for security. In theory tho one should be able to install it and check with a GAP tool, or similar, for the module and encode if needed..... somehow. I wonder if the "scan for new modules" would do the trick? When getting a new GAP tool, it is one of the steps for setting up and something I needed to do for my radar module to work for cruise control. You will also want to run ECU infos and see what comes up for the EPB.

I may have fallen victim to the “LR3 or LR4” lie…I’d have to double-check but that seems like what I read on the website.

If the IIDTool can somehow save my *** then God bless GAP. I’ll do some reading on that.

Thanks Dakota!

Did some reading, like you have prob done, and nothing comes up about a module causing a no-start. But if it is indeed a CAN bus issue, then I can see that happening.

Thanks for digging into it, I appreciate that. I'll let you know how it turns out!

I might have to buy an actuator from the damn dealer....hopefully I can return this incorrect one, but I bought it off Ebay, so probably not.

Any update? Only asking because there is a new thread with the same issues you had.

Sorry, I was out of the country.

The shop got it all buttoned up. They swapped the motherboard from the old EPB and put it in the new one. Pretty clever....fingers crossed that it all keeps working as it should.
