Question EPB Fault - Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor

Hey all,

'05 LR3, 80k miles. I've had an amber parking brake warning light for a while that resets each time the vehicle is shut off, but comes back after driving for a bit.

Fault info from Gap tool:

Parking Brake
• C1A40-02 (A8) Longitudinal acceleration sensor - General failure information - general signal failure

I have reset the fault and attempted to perform the longitudinal acceleration sensor calibration routine per procedure, and it fails each time (says "Routine Failed E 7").

Does anyone know anything about this sensor, like where on the vehicle it is located? I have searched the workshop manual, and the only reference I can find to it is in the DTC list. I would like to attempt to just swap it out and see if that fixes my issue.

Thanks for any help!

Do you have the RAVE manual?

It appears that the sensor would either be one of the microswitches in the EPB switch in the console (you could swap in a new one to test this, not too much money), or it would be in the actuator assembly under the truck.

See attached. For reference this is section [206-05 Parking brake and Actuation]

Thanks for the info. After doing A LOT of Googling, and looking around at models other than the LR3, I've come to the conclusion that the Longitudinal Accelerometer is just one part of the Yaw sensor (the other part being the Lateral Accelerometer), that interfaces with the ABS module and the EPB module among others. This Yaw sensor is mounted under the center console next to the EPB switch. I found a used one online for $29.95 (part no. SRO00020), and the process of swapping it out looks like a nightmare, but I'm going to do it anyway.

So out of curiousity, would you or someone else be willing to use your Gap tool and take a look at the live values display for your longitudinal acceleration sensor? What I am curious about is your value while the vehicle is at rest. Mine reports a value of between -380 to -390 ms2 while at rest.

Thanks!
