Default First trans service at 240,000km bad idea?

Good day,

Mater of opinions here...

I have a 06 RRS 4.4 with 230,000km... I know this is the LR3 area but my question is relevant and suspect more LR3 owners will have experience with this.

I have no Idea when the last time the transmission fluid was replaced nor do I know if it was ever replaced. This said the owners service manual call for fluid replacement at 240,000km. Do you think it might be too late for a fluid change and may cause more damage than good?

Also please note that sometime the shift from 1 to 2nd can sometime give me a little jerk and isn't as smooth as the rest of the shift. But this is an intermittent symptom and not necessarily related to the transmission being at operating temperature or not.

If I were to do a fluid change can I simply do a drain and fill or is it really mandatory to replace pan and filter. Does anyone have any experience using another fluid other than the costly ZF lifeguard? I was thinking of using the liqui moly atf 1800 https://products.liqui-moly.com/top-tec-atf-1800-1.html

New oil is always better than old oil, and oil is cheaper than metal.

Yes, the manual said 240,000kms or 10 years which ever comes first, better to replace the tranny oil

I did change on 220,000 kms without replacing the filter, in fact the filter is an plastic oil sump, if you want to replace it it's better

No idea about oil, I use ZF oil since it's every 10 years

Better late than never

LR say 150,000 miles

ZF (who you should actually listen to) say 75,000 miles

Do the metal pan with removable filter when you do it. Ford raptor or BMW part number IIRC

Redline D6 ATF. I’ve used it exclusively without issue

Default 80,000 km

I change the tranny oil plus plastic pan every 80,000 km which at near a thousand dollars Cdn gets expensive.

The reason for saying with the plastic pan has to do with cold temperature out here on the prairies. Down East is not so cold so the metal pan and separate oil filter option sure makes economic sense.

At 300,000 km, all is still good however. I think more good than harm would occur if you changed out both the oil and filter. I use the LR overpriced oil as well but in the Jaguar container as it is less overpriced.

I think the high cost has something to do with the Stardust and Unobtanium additives that LR puts in to their mix - that and limited sales volume - gee I wonder why?

The link is perhaps more than you want to know about our 6HP26. I note a number of the files within have over a thousand views and one over four thousand views - maybe there are people who want to know.
