Default Front Electrical fuel tank plug access in front passenger wheel well

Hello,

I am looking to access the front fuel tank electrical connector that travels from the rear of the vehicle where the fuel tank is and along the under carriage to the front passenger wheel well.

This is NOT the rear part of the vehicle.

Does anyone know if the connector is acccessible / visible from under the vehicle instead of removing the tire and inner wheel well mud liner?

This is because my fuel gauge is stuck showing below empty with the light on. After numerous reads on fuel pump sender units (didn’t work for a lot of people to replace those sensors and drop the tank numerous times), it may be as simple as checking the wire in the front first as that section of wires were not very well insulated against the frame 🤦‍♂️

I am curious if anyone else has explored this? This fix came from this thread on LandRoverWorld by the user Mathewwrn

The photos are from that thread as well.

Connector and wires… ground is broken here

Yes, those pics are correct and that is the spot - above the "horn" - that metal thing attached to the frame. You can do two things tho, if you have an early model you can easily remove the three bolts holding the "horn" Fram part and remove it to see em easily enough. (edit to say that teh Fram horn is bolted on but I think there are tiny hooks so lift upwards a little once unbolted to remove) Or you can just turn the wheel full one way to the other and fold up the wheel well liner. I do it often. Just remove any screws and plastic tab rivets in that area and pull it up and fold onto itself. It is how I access the front valve block too. They fold back find with no damage. Just not sure if turning the wheel full passenger or full driver is best. But def go into off-road height.

Of note, I have been down a similar path when my fuel pump died. Maybe some info can help you here....

Did a little digging today and can see the connector in the front. Will investigate the wires tomorrow.

I also came across a thread where someone had the same issue except that the wiring was in the rear passenger tire area (right side of car if you are standing at the cargo area). They had a connector that was wonky in the rear; however, they describe finding it as laying under the car and looking up towards the spare tire and chassis and finding a two wire black connector.

Does anyone have an exploded wiring diagram that shows where the connectors for the fuel tank and pump are that traverse to the front wheel well?

Or, if someone could kindly look at this thread and tell me what I might be looking for?

As always, thank you kindly for your time and help. I salaried each responder by raising a glass to them 🍻🍺

Thank you and now to spend some time figuring out which connecter is which.

Is there a legend / table somewhere that lists all the connectors?

Found the wiring guide here

Default A little more info

On page 44 of the wiring diagram it looks like there are three connectors .5 meters from the fuel sensor. C3009, C2446, & C2446.

But I am not sure it translates across to the picture I sent you.

Hope this helps

Jeff

I appreciate the help

I know where the front connector is, it is the rear one that eludes me currently. From what I have found, there is one more connector in the rear passenger wheel well behind the wheel well liner.

Once the weather is nicer (it’s been on and off showers, hail, cold wind and gross out), hopefully later today or tomorrow, I can have a peek at that connection. I want to inspect annd ensure that the wiring is not broken, corroded or shorted from rubbing on the frame for any of the wires coming to or going from those connectors.

Figured out where the rear connectors are, and they are on the driver’s side rear tire wheel well area.

Now I just have to pull the spare, and then get to unplugging the connectors, cleaning and inspecting. I can already see they are coated in dirt and crud… should be interesting.

Hello archaeology student,
Were you able to fix your fuel gauge issue by cleaning/fixing the rear driver side connectors?
