Default Fuel Sending Failure

Fuel level rapidly began dropping. Filled the tank. Still shows empty.

The scanner shows Fuel Sender 2 pegged at 1023 ohms.

I've heard the horror stories of dropping the tank, etc. any suggestions? Rig both wires up to #1 and just have a crappy gauge?

I take it 2 is the forward most sender, if so... good luck.

i just replaced one with a good used tank as the level sender is almost impossible to change.

Yup. Forward, the more difficult one. (I was hopeful that #2 would be rear, but nope.) How was the process of replacing the tank? Do you mind sharing what you paid for a used one?

It's a lot easier then you would think. There is a write up by another member, Tom, in the sticky section. I have a lift and a trans jack with fuel tank bracket, so it's a little easier that way.

We part out Rovers so I had the tank. We sell them with fuel pump and senders still installed for $200-$250.

We perted out an 05' recently that had a completely different looking tank with a "serviceable" front sending unit, meaning it has a threaded ring. After checking the tank, it had a 2012 production date. I imagine it's the new design found in the LR4, they got smart.

Installing a used tank has a risk though, right, that the senders could go out at any time too?

No, used parts are bulletproof! Jk, of course.

A dealer tech told me that before they were replacing tanks they cut open and old tank and had a tech with the smallest arms practice changing the sender until he could do it blind folded.
