Default Gap IID tool triggered multiple faults

I went to plug in my IID tool the other day and the second I plugged it into the OBDII port, the car chimed and let me know that special programs were disabled, HDC was disabled, and the brake light was lit up yellow along with the suspension light. There were probably other faults listed as well that I missed. I had to restart to get everything back to normal.

I checked the faults with the IID tool once I restarted and sure enough, there were faults across a number of ECUs relating to the bus network. It seems like plugging in the IID tool took down the network.

This is not the first weird behavior from my OBDII port. I have a OBDII to bluetooth dongle that occasionally will completely shut down the truck (not when plugging it in, but randomly during use), similar to a hard reset. I do also have 3 persistent network faults relating to the instrument cluster, ride height, and parking sensors (but all work fine).

Seems to point to a network issue. Anyone else have a similar experience? Could this be my instrument cluster on the way out?

Sounds like a perfect question for the GAP Support Team!

Mine used to do this fairly often. No big deal, faults got cleared and went away each time. IIRC there was a mention in the users manual that this could happen when connecting the tool.

Aside from triggering the faults, I did not experience the hard resets or other behavior you describe, and I did not use a port extender or other dongle.

Is your battery low when you plug it in? I'd think that it would put an immediate load on the electrical system....just a thought. Try it with the engine running.
