Default Have a popping/thumping sound/feel in front end

08’ LR3 SE 184,000

This has seemed to mutant over the past couple of weeks. The original issue was a popping/thumping after going over a speed bump along with a kind of resentence that worked it self out pretty quickly. Mental note- tell husband. Then it started the same issue when accelerating from a stop. Just a little but I noticed it. Mental note, tell husband. Then it become more aggressive so I told my husband. He has changed front & rear diff fluids & transfer case. Inspected tires, front end from underneath and has driven it. What next? Other than a trip to service :/
I have faith in this forum. I saved myself a transmission issue by reading through and finding the tire sizes could be issue (no 3rd or 4th gear had to use manual to shift). My tires were the issue and what a great relief that was. So I’m reaching out to you guys!! Thanks in advance - Brandy

oh, I forgot to mention, it has actually become more aggressive, not only from a stop to accelerating but also while accelerating up hill. The newest is now when I first start (always has higher RPMS) and apply the brake to reverse, I get the pops. Once the RPMs calm down it stops doing it. Also, I’ve tested the “drive in a circle” and no popping there.

Hmmm....not sure about the behavior from stop to accelerating or from "brake to reverse." In fact I'm not even sure what "brake to reverse" means.....but try idling along at about 5mph or less and hitting the brakes briskly. If the same "pop" occurs, it's your front lower control arm bushings (worn). That's my best guess.

Yeah, that's a tough one to diagnose over the Internet
But you mentioning resistance after the thump makes me think it could be a driveline issue, possibly driveshaft or cv axles. If you're sure it's the front end, then I'd definitely be looking at the cv axles up there... But again, that's just a guess, at most just a direction for further inspection.

Do you get a thump when you put the gear selector into reverse? I was having all sorts of thumping issues when putting my car into reverse and letting off the throttle. I took my phone camera and recorded each section of the driveline (front diff, transfer case, rear diff) to see what movement was occuring when I put it into reverse. I found that my front diff would move upwards a good inch or two when i put it into reverse. My mechanic changed out the diff mounts and while in there, also changed my engine mounts. All of them were shot. My driveline drives like new again.
