HDC Fault (and other things)
X2... I was getting just about the same mysterious error messages, but my suspension would lower and I had limited gears plus a parking brake error and an intermittent start condition, all described here https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr...roblem-108590/ . So far all is good, I just removed and cleaned connections on both sides of that stud the negative battery cable is connected to and ran an extra #4 ground cable from that stud side to my intake manifold. It is a bit of work, but here the roads are salted in winter, so if yours are too, this grounding is a good, inexpensive place to start looking for intermittent weird electrical issues. The Land Rover LR3 maintenance manual shows all the (or most of) grounding points in the 414-01 section "Battery, Mounting and Cables".

All,
I have welcomed all these ideas and in fact, followed EVERY suggestion to solve this problem with no resolve.HDC error, erratic central locking, H-VAC and radio shut down, hazard lights flashing... and that's only IF the dear Rover starts (4 out of 5 times she doesn't). This is my research vehicle, often packed with Biology students... it can't not start. Alas, she left us stranded time and time again getting worse and worse over time.
Look, I read every thread. Hoping for resolution, I replaced the brake switch, OEM brake light bulbs (and more), new battery, cleaned/sanded/reattached every contact/ground, even slapped in a new starter (PITA). Yep, also bought the $600 GAPII tool. I opt not to add up the costs, nor suggest the 'value' of my time to do the word (god forbid I pay a dealer to do so...)
None of these worked forme. All symptoms articulated above persisted. The most important symptom was fact that truck often simply will not even try to start, leaving your STRANDED for minutes, hours or days.
In desperation, I recalled a thread I read when the issue first appeared, 2 years ago. It suggested a fault in the instrument cluster but the solution didnt appeal to me. Find a bone yard, rip out a cluster, and reprogram that cluster to work with my LR3... Nope.
I searched eBay for a used cluster and to my shock and amazement, found several vendors who would REPAIR my OEM cluster. Wow, really? So remove, pack, ship, and 48 hours later get ALL my error codes and engine start again... YES.
Wrapping up, cluster came out easily. Paid $289 (there are cheaper vendors on eBay, but went with these guys due to volume and rating). Cluster came back. 100% problems solved.
I wont discount all other remedies posted here, but if I did it again, I would have gone with the cluster repair. No reprograming. Not odometer change. It's 100% the core issue IMHO. I can finally trust my LR3 again and as a 25+ year LR owner, that's a big deal...
Exhaling...! Love regaining trust in my beloved LR3.
