Default Heater Core

Bought a really clean 2006 LR3 for my son and had a local indie check it out while servicing everything.

When I picked it up, it was moderate temperatures and I didn't even think about checking the heat. I did check the AC though :-)

They checked the truck out and said it was in great specimen for a '06 LR3.

HOWEVER,
The Heater Core needs replaced. I about passed out when I heard the labor costs involved.

They say it is blowing out one side, but not the other and that is caused by a bad heater core.

Did some research and have heard it can be anything from some bad auto doors to air mixers. Also read some skepticism about it being a heater core that could cause the symptom.

A) Does this really sound like a heater core issue
B) Is there a way to flush a clog out of it if it is a heater core
C) Could it be anything else
D) is there instructions anywhere where it talks about doing this job

So, my trusted Indy Shop quoted me about $2100 to replace the Heater Core, which as you can see from my questions I am not 100% convinced it is the problem.

My wife just called another indy shop in our area and they want between $800 to $1200.

Any idea other than one guy is charging a hell of a lot less for his labor why there would be such a big difference.

If I try to tackle myself, is it that hard.

And yes, I just noticed the other thread about it and am about to start reading.

Having stripped one down to its heater core I can say it's a big job, one that I would be reluctant to tackle.

I would guess it's 3-5 hours to get it out and the same to button it up. That's being careful to not break things along the way.

literally everything needs to be removed. I would go ahead and have that cracked dash replaced while it's being done.

Also, if you pay to have it done I would very critical of the fit of the assemblies involved. Also drive down a bumpy road and listen for loose pieces and noisy parts.

How do you remove the black panel just under the steering wheel to get to the blend door actuator?
