Hello!
Hello! I'm super new to the forums, and have been lurking for a bit-- interested in joining the ranks of LR3 lovers and have heard a ton of good things. I have a 2021 Ford Bronco preordered since July of 2019 and am a bit tired, as a consumer, of being jerked around... so I've decided to look at options and the only overlander-type vehicle that has truly spoken to me is the LR3 so far. I'm active duty Military currently in VA, US. Apologies for the long intro...
I have a few questions. I have dug around the forums a bit.
With all of that being said I am infatuated but I am still a bit nervous about purchasing. The suspension seems a bit complex and it would seem issues abound with the electronics (BLS/PCV/Brake Lights... etc). I am just wondering how often these issues arise. I looked at the pre-purchase checklist and I wasn't able to find a check list per se, only a bunch of folks adding stuff to look at... not trying to offend, just wanted to make sure I am not missing something. My intent would be (I think) to find an LR dealership and have them "bless" the thing prior to purchase... make sense?
Regarding purchasing-- does anyone have a recommended dealership or means for which to purchase? I have seen a few private sellers and dealerships, none of which are official a of course I am skeptical. I even saw a 2009 for 17k (https://www.edmunds.com/land-rover/lr3/2008/vin/SALAE25418A448484/?radius=6000) and I was very surprised because most were running 8-12k. I figured this group seems rather tight knit and have been through their share of LR3s.
I hope I didn't come off as rude or presumptuous... just trying to get the skinny on how to join your community, while mitigating as much of the mechanical risk as possible.
Cheers!

My first question is - are you able to do your own maintenance/repairs?
The pre-purchase sticky in this forum is a very good start for things to look for. just read up.
My first advice is, buy one from a dry climate, with complete records of its history.
I have a theory that wet = more problematic rovers.
