Default Help Ignition Switch

hello all,

i'm in the process of buying this 06 LR3. Only problem is its missing the ignition switch. for those of you concern if the car is stolen, seller has title in hand. anyway my questions are, can i simple buy a new/used ignition switch and keys to fix it? is it a DIY or do i need to take it to the dealership? if it is a DIY, will the dealer need to program the key or the switch from another car?

thanks,
DoN

You used the words "simple" and "fix" in the same sentence. That's the first problem and the answer is likely "no." I would be really wondering, even if not stolen, why the ignition switch is missing.

New key is a $500 adventure easily; and it's not DIY.

LOL-- yes, good one.

I don't think you can pair a key from a different vehicle once it has been paired to a vehicle. That $500.00 for a key seems like just the beginning, as it looks like it needs a new ignition switch as well. I would be curious what happened to cause all of that. A dealer or an independent with an Autologic can do the programming, but the key needs to be ordered from the dealer with the VIN#. All keys you plan to use must be present when the programming is done.
