Default Help with Replacing Alternator

Hi,
So I went to start my LR3 and the +/- red battery light went on, the car made a weird nose and turned off (key is stuck in ignition too). I was told by my LR repairman a few months back that the alternator wasn't sounding great and it seems like it finally went caput.

My question is this a beginner home car repair job or should I take it to my guy? I've watched youtube videos on the repair and feel pretty good, but wondering what people think through their experience with this repair.

Thanks for your help.

It’s a pretty simple job, very beginner friendly. Disconnect the battery, drop the skid plate, remove the accessory belt, pull the alternator. You might need to pull the passenger wheel for access.

You might need a new battery too. It will have completely depleted with a failing alternator and a few deep cycles on a starting battery will kill them. As you may know, a bad battery on the LR3 will cause all sorts of other headaches.
