Default HSE rear view mirror upgrade

Looking to add an HSE mirror to my wife's SE.

I saw on Landroversonly that it's possible, but the windshield mount needs to be swapped for a round BMW style.

Questions:

- any tips on removing the mount without damaging the windshield?

- does the new mount go exactly where the old mount was?

- what adhesive is best?

Thanks

I can't really answer your questions, but the HSE mirror will have a rain sensor, which the SE mirror doesn't have, correct? If so, you may want to consider paying a windshield repair shop to do this... if it's not done just right, I don't think the rain sensor will function correctly.

I have an SE and it does have quite a good rain sensor.

What otherwise is the difference between the two mirrors? Why not just leave the SE one?

Ours has the cheap nonelectric rearview mirror. No auto dimming no homellink. That is why we want to upgrade to an HSE mirror

For what it's worth, it's not a matter of HSE/non-HSE. But of package options that lower trim level could have. For instance, my 2005 SE has the climate package and lighting package; so I have rain sensing wipers, as well as the auto-dim mirror with homelink.

Cool, Now I just need to figure out how to install the mount. From the other forum I learned that the wire connectors exist in the headliner, just need to source the mirror.

Since you have an 05 like me you may want to look for the wires first, 05 did not come pre wired for all options like 06 did

What I am getting at is the mirror may be part of the auto light/heated windshield/front heated seat harness I am missing

I just looked on my 05 parts car that has the same cheap mirror and the wires are there.

It looks like the auto light/auto windshield wiper harness is there. I bought a mirror that has the auto light module, so I also bought an auto light switch to see if I can get that working at the same time.

I'm going to try and do the swap this week, I will update when I'm done.

Unfortunately I broke one of the tabs on my donor mirror, so I will need to drill out the rivers and replace with something from the JY.
