Default I got the P186D Diff Clutch acuator code.

So I got the P186D-00 code and the U1A4A-68 code. Code came up when wife was driving normal, she said 😂 I have a Gap tool cleared it then self tested the Diif Lock a few times. My wife then went on a short drive and had no issue. What can I do. Or should I just keep an eye on it. I’m thinking about a rear differential overhaul. 2008 LR3 HSE with rear Locker.

Try looking HERE for some information about that code.

It is a procedure for fixing a code after a new motor is installed, but it has info that you can try before pulling that big expensive hunk of metal from under the car.

Hope this helps.

Just the code or is the diff making a "clank" sound in some cases?

If it's just the code, you could probably get away with replacing only the locking motor on top of the pumpkin. If it's clanking, you probably should replace both the diff and the motor. Ask me how I know...

By the way, GO BEAVS!

(UW @ OSU tomorrow, Men's Basketball, should be a good one)

Ill give up an L to you guys in basketball any time, football on the other hand is another story

Back to the Rover,

I will drive it a few times this weekend and see what is happening with it. I have only owned it for a year (its been a great year) so this just started today. However I have heard a noise in the back that sounds like bearings are wearing. I was hoping it was rear wheel bearings and not diff bearings. Sooooooooooo lets hope the code goes away.

Houm_Wa do you know of Rovin Rovers (they are in Fall City)?

What are you reading codes with?

I had a customer that was using a generic reader and it was pointing to his rear diff based on his research, but the GAP and Autologic said it was the transfer case.

There was a LTB issued in January 2009 in regards to that code.I had that code appear for a while, but did not pay attention up until that point that I could hear a screech coming from a rear E diff actuator motor. Rear diff will not not throw any codes per se as everything goes through Transfer case hence codes showing transfer case module involved. Basically you will need a software update for the rear diff actuator motor as it has a tendency of being partially stuck or engaged partially. Worst case scenario you will need a new or rebuild rear diff actuator motor and software update afterwords. One way to check if the actuator is bad is to listen for a screech sound while turning ignition off with windows down.

Roger that.

I will keep a close eye. I drove a few times today and no code thrown yet. We will see. I am knocking on wood right now
