Just about any ecu is swappable if you have the right knowledge and equipment to clone/edit eeprom data directly etc.
But regarding the TCM, what led you to change that out?

I haven't found this documented anywhere. That knowledge would be exceedingly helpful to the LR3 community. Can you expound or point to resources that show how to do it?

I'd love to help out more there, unfortunately that would take writing what would end up being a book length post Even for people who do this all the time, there is still sometimes at least some level of risk and uncertainty involved. That risk can be minimized, but most shops and certainly most dealers just aren't set up to do board level repairs/programming. They want quick and easy, even if a new module is a couple thousand bucks when a used one can be made usable for 1/4th of that or less...

It's definitely not your usual diy-level process. Sometimes you can do it via the obd port, or by directly connecting to the module in question via it's built in wiring harness connection port.

But it does often involves taking apart the ecu/module, desoldering chips from circuit boards, connecting directly via a chip programmer, reading/decoding/editing hex files to change VIN numbers, key codes etc. I might be offering this service on a mail in basis to the community at some point, but I'll need to find the time to hire some help for my usual repair work, more shop space etc etc

But with the price and uncertain availability of all the modules for these (now getting close to 20 years old) rolling computers, it makes sense to save as many of them as we can by repairing/reprogramming used modules.

Let me see if I can find a good example of the basic process on youtube....

Ok, here's a great one doing a circuit board level VIN edit on a used Hyundai module. L1 is a fantastic resource for learning about this sort of thing.
