Default Keyfob not turning off Immobilizer after changed case (other old key works fine)

Keyfob to 05 LR3 had a hole in the front. Took it apart and put board in new case as per threads on this board. It was working fine prior to switching cases. My other remote still works fine. But while the doors lock and unlock, the immobilizer circuit does not work and the LR3 will not start. As the other one works, clearly it is a problem with the key. Don't think I damaged the board removing from the old case. Anyone have suggestions on what I can try short of having the key reprogrammed? Is there any particular area I can inspect for damage to the immobilizer circuit? Thanks.

Damn! Ok, let me get the info straight- you change the case on your old key which was starting and remote locking & unlocking your LR3. Now, after the case was changed, the key remote locks & unlocks but will not disengage the immobilizer.

I personally have not tried repairing a remote yet on a LR3. I've not mix results on older 2003 Range Rovers.

Have you read the thread on remote case replacement? I wish I could be of more help

You're using the same key blade as before too, right?

That is strange, like Jafir said, as long as internals are the same... it should not be an issue. Maybe a scratched or broken circuit?

I have replaced the fob shells on both keys once already, no issues. Switched form one to the other, each was used for ~6months.

The small black rectangle component on the thin leg of the circuit board is the immobilizer chip.

you probably knocked it loose when doing the case.

I've found a device that can reset "used" keys so that they can be synced with a different LR3. It's pricey so I didn't buy it. But there are is at least one place that will unlock your old key for $30.

While trying to do a case swap a couple of years ago I stuck a flathead screwdriver through the circuit board. Costly mistake. I ended up ordering a new key from the dealer. I had made friends with the guys in the parts department and the gave me a desk on the key, $200. I paid another $75 for programming. Ouch. I should have just bought a gap II tool but didn't know that the Gap II tool would program a key. The unlock rubber on my RRS key case just cracked out. After my last experience I am reluctant to pry open the case..........good luck. If you are in so cal call abran. He will hook you up. Phil
