Default Let’s play What’s This Noise.

Recently I have begun to notice a sort of rubbing or soft grinding coming from somewhere underneath the car/wheels. I have heard and read about the differential whine, but I’m not sure that’s what this is. To me it sounds like the brake pads are rubbing on the rotors while I’m driving. If you have ever spun your tires while it was on jacks and you can hear the brake pads slight rubbing against the rotors, that’s what it sounds like, but a lot more noticeable at highway speeds. Obviously it’s not there when the car is stationary, only while it’s moving. It never changes pitch, just gets louder and softer based on speed. Any initial thoughts? I’ll have to borrow some jacks to get this thing in the air. The jack that is in my car will not lift it. I don’t know if it’s original or not

Might need to adjust your emergency parking brake shoes.

this might very well be the issue. I used the parking break the other day while up under the car. The last time it was used was before I owned it, and the sound does tend to emanate more from the rear.
