Default A little twist

I know it's been posted on here...but what are the proper voltages for the LR3's battery both with ignition off and on? Here is the twist: I see that the IIDTool tells me voltage - when I'm out of menu and likely in it, too - so has anyone used that feature and what should that voltage be?

Thanks in advance.

Not with an IID tool, but with a multimeter.

I think your voltage would depend on a number of things including outside air temperature, battery temperature, type of battery, etc.

I can tell you that I seem to charge at about 13.2V here in the summer and I believe I was charging at 14.2V over the winter. In other words, that's my system voltage with engine running. My "at rest" voltage seems to be in the neighborhood of 12.5-12.7V with an AGM battery. If you have a normal SLA battery, you may see slightly higher at rest voltages.

Hope this gives a bit of reference.

Actually you can use an IIDTool, it turns out. Also the LR3 has an easter egg buried in the radio head unit. You can see voltage through that as well.

How are you accessing the easter egg.

I'd concur with cmb6s numbers, currently it's so hot here, running voltages have dropped to 13.2 to 13.3. Winter high around 14.2.

Here's a snapshot

...up up down down left right left right B A Select Start.

Just joking, and hopefully you are in the right age range to get the joke. I saw on another thread: turn on the radio. Push and hold the tuning **** (on the opposite side of the head unit from the on ****) for about 20 seconds. A diag screen will appear. Repeat that; hold the **** down for another 20. Another screen will appear. Turn the tuning **** clockwise, I think 5 or 6 clicks and you'll see a measured value labeled as Voltage (or something like that).

Pressing Select, then start is a good sign, it means you had friends.

As for the radio trick -- mine didn't seem to do it -- Just tried it on Aux. Maybe it requires it to be in FM mode, or it's only on headunits that have NAV? I'll have to go try again while I'm actually caring. I was at a stoplight when I tried mine. Who knows, maybe it needs to be in park, too?

Those are all possibilities. The HSE has a different stereo than the SE; so that's another variable. FWIW I was parked with the key in the II position.

So where did you end up with the battery voltages?

Oh...sorry for not updating. My charging voltage was fine (14.8 or so) but my non-charging voltage was low (like 11.2). My most trusted LR Tech told me that below ~12 Volts the ECUs get unhappy.

The good news is that the battery was only 17 months old and under warranty. I literally took it to the LR Service Dept (I'd bought an Interstate from them as their price was competitive) and un-installed it right there in their parking lot; traded them, and installed the new one. Drove away...NO MONEY EXCHANGED...at a Land Rover Dealer Service Dept!

...that almost never happens! (I should've drank a bunch of their fancy coffee just to go one-up on them)
