Hi Guys,

I've always loved looking at Land Rover's but to be honest I have had very little experience with them. I'm strongly considering buying an 2006 LR3 HSE fully loaded. 169,000 km for $15,000. Everyone is telling me I'm crazy because the nearest LandRover dealer is 300 km away. Am I really crazy?

I've been reading as many posts as possible in regards to these vehicles but I'm wondering if you guys would be willing to share a list of questions I should ask the current owner/ seller? Would be greatly appreciated. This would be the first time buying a used car.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Questions can have three types of answer, truth, lies and evasion. As with most buying used car checklists (LR aside) - find out if the owner kept the service paperwork and review that to see what kind of owner it has.

You say LR dealer is 300KM away but is there a nearer independent shop who has experience of LR vehicles who might be able to do a pre-purchase inspection for you ? With that age and mileage, you're in no need of keeping up with "warranty stamp" work from a franchised dealership...

 

I'm with stmcknig... and what do you plan on doing yourself ie: how handy are you, and if you're smart enough to be here, if you are willing to spend some time, you can probably resolve many problems yourself, and keep a few common failure items handy. It seems though like an IID tool or something more would be a must to reset service internals, clear any faults that come up, etc.

Even a non-Land Rover shop who knows what they are doing, should be able to handle most things that could come up if they are competent. My local shop is a general shop, not a Land Rover shop. I even bring my own parts.
