Default Lower tail gate stuck

So, Have an LR3 that came into the shop. The lower interior tailgate panel has been cut open and visible signs of wiring repair from a botched upper tailgate repair issue.

Change out the button, no joy.

Anybody got a hack to get the LOWER tailgate open?

That’s a good find, I thought you had to fight the trim panel off

Jeez... I've had my hands cut up and pinched getting inside the panel and then in behind the latch motor to yank the release cable. Is it really that easy?! LOL...

I watched that video a few weeks ago, and immediately went outside and tried it. I can confirm this works on a 2006 model.

Thanks Abran, looks to be much simpler and less destructive than the hole method.
Wish I stumbled on to this video sooner.
I managed to blindly grab the cable with a small 1/4 inch hole drilled in the trim with a hook tool and release the lower gate a few years ago.
Put a zip tie on the cable and allowed it to hang out in case the failure occurred again....sold that LR3 LOL

Confirmed it works on my 08, so just a manual release for the top for full access.
