Default LR3 ABS Modulator replacement

I'm posting this for anyone else running into the same issue I had. I've got a 2005 V8 LR3 with just under 160,000 miles on it. Couple weeks back a bunch of faults showed up on dash and my speedo stopped working. I traced it back to a rear speed sensor issue with my GAP tool. Purchased and installed the sensor but no fix. I then had my mechanic spend 2 hours tracing a wiring issue back to the ABS Modulator. He concluded it could not be opened and fixed so only option was to replace. This part is no longer available new so anyone out there looking to replace will run into the same issue I had. Just like all of you I started doing some research online. I was told by multiple sources that this part is vin locked and needs to be flashed to work if installing in a new LR3. I did not really know what that entailed but I was desperate and took a chance. Found one out of a 2006 on Ebay for $70. Also side note: my research also told me that the 2005/2006 have the same part but 2007-2009 are different. for anyone searching, the 2005/2006 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have the same part as well. My mechanic installed the new modulator, cleared all the codes and it's working fine. Problems are all fixed, speedo is working, faults are gone and nothing indicating a reflash for the part is needed. I hope this helps anyone running into the same issue. Good luck.

A guy on my regular forum AULRO had ABS issues and did the same, swapped out the ABS modulator with a used one and no programming required.

Yeah, some modules technically need VIN encoding but will work fine and instead simply throw a VIN mis-match fault code. Like the transfer case module. But they will work fine. Some modules, not so much. Glad you got it all working.
