Default LR3 dash

Hey there, I have a 05 Lr3. A couple of weeks ago a crack started at the top of the pass. airbag. It spread quickly and is now along the entire top and running down the side of the bag.

I asked my local shop how much it would be to replace, I was told that it would be VERY expensive and should live with the crack. He said that the entire dash needs to be replaced in order to change the top cover.

This doesn’t make sense to me... If there is an accident and the pass airbag deploys, do they replace the whole dash because of this?

Seems we should be able to just replace the top.
Any ideas? Has anyone done this job before?

yes they actually do replace the whole top of the dash and to get it out is a pain in the ***. 3 sections have to come apart in order for that thing to come out plus you have to wait a while to get a new vin sticker. you have to take the drivers side section out the center console section out and the passengers side section out not a fun job

maybe Car Cover, Seat Covers, Dash Cover, Floormats, Sunshields - Manufactured by Coverking or similar dash topper - in custom mud spattered pattern...

oh and the airbag destroys the windshield.

and some states won't let you register the vehicle if the vin sticker isn't on there. And canada won't for sure. Don't ask how I know.

My LR3 was in for service this week. While there I got a quote to get it replaced, 1800 and change. No where near as bad as I thought it would be. I will have the dealership do it next year...

This happened to my '05 when it was still under warranty and they replaced it for nothing, but i was never as happy with things inside the car afer they did. They had to rip so much of the dash apart to replace it that things never quite the same. I was back several times afterwards to have numerous parts resecured and clips replaced and so on. Just be aware of this.

that's my big fear also... thanks for the heads up, I am going to try a few aftermarket repairs first. I hate to be a snob, but I refuse to drive a car with a torn up dash.. would be different if it were a 70's impala....
