Default Lr3 gas filler neck

Do this look normal? Most vehicles I seen had a cover flap with tension to cover hole after fill up. Trying to figure out this lean bank issue. Everything else looks good. Thanks

Yeah I think your hole is exposed. Should be a cover flap. How the heck did you lose THAT?

Bought the car a year ago like this. Failed emissions some how the dealer where I got it from got it to pass. Failed again recently and I check everything. While gassing up I wondered about this. In theory it would cause a leak right? Maybe I can get something to cover it up and try to pass this week

I would just go buy a new "flapper."

I thought the flapper is more to stop splash back when the tank is full. Don't think it seals the filler neck. Sealing is the job of the gas CAP. If you are failing presurization/ I would invest in a new Cap.

As said flap is not a seal, more to do with preventing splashing fuel and I think, a bit of a Roll Over Valve (ROV). If you gentle fill the tank with the flap closed (I do it some times when trying to fill to the neck) you will see that there is no 'seal' around the flap.

Here in the UK we don't have the same emission controls as you, but I'm aware that there are several other valves, etc on various lines/breathers connected with the fuelling and tank related to emissions. Maybe you could ask the dealer you got it from what the problem was the last time, could be the same one.

Thanks for the replies. I passed emissions with no problem. It was just a thought so that answers that question on if it seals off the tank
