Default LR3 HD Locker Delete

hi does anyone know if anyone has replaced there HD Factory Locker with a regular Diff and fitted the ARB Airlocker? I don’t know if it is possible to delete the factory Locker’s Electronics and what other electrical problems might arise.

That’s a new one.

I’m curious, why?

My guess is you will get a transmission fault at every start up.

Friend of mine who has a HD package and his rear Diff is noisey as heck and he wants to change it out for a Standard Diff housing with Airlocker instead of a Factory Locker as they are around the same price locally to us if not slightly cheaper. I think the LR3 will go nuts electronically if he tries it.

My $.02 is a low mileage used one. A quick search on car-part says they can be had for well under $500. I’m sure not everyone is comfortable going that route, but I would be.

Well you could just disconnect it and see what happens, no? Or I wonder how the vehicle would behave if you disconnect the module (driver side, second row near where the seatbelt attached to the body). Thought on disconnecting the model and resetting computers if that it wont show up on the bus and the vehicle may think it was never installed. Otherwise you may have to reprogram.

I would guess with a GAP tool you could change what the truck thinks is back there in that rear end.

I just think it's a silly idea. Bite the bullet, get a new or rebuilt diff, maybe a new locking motor....and change the fluid regularly. Of the open+ARB approach pencils out to the same $, then there is no advantage.

I have a non-locking rear diff that I just pulled off of my ‘06. I replaced it with a diff I got off a scrapped LR3, bought the rebuild kit, had a diff shop pull it apart, clean it, change all seals and bearings, close it up, then paint. Came out great. Was going to rebuild the one I just pulled for a backup, or sell.

You will need to reprogram to tell it that it has a non-locking rear diff.

Huh... and here I am wanting to add the OEM "locking" diff to a LR3 with a standard diff.
I have all the parts and wiring, just lack of time to do it.
