Default LR3 headlight soft focus HID D2

I can not seem to find the answer on this one. Both headlight housings appear original and they are both physically in excellent condition. No fogging, etc. But there are two small issues. The driver side is soft and shifted a little more into the blues. I think the "out of focus" look is actually causing the color shift. The passenger side appears much more focused with a whiter light appearance. This issue affects three separate sets of HID lamps. I had this issue with the factory originals so I bought new ones. Wanger lamps worked fine, same focus issue. But they were much warmer in color than I liked so I put the originals back in. Now this past week new 5000k Hella lamps arrived. Love the color, but they do have the same difference in side to side appearance.

Could this be normal? I know headlights are usually never mirror copies form side to side, often the driver side is clipped in a way to reduce glare, etc. And this changes with RH or LH drive. So putting Euro lights on an NA car cause cause small issues. My other thought would be a ballast issue. Wherever those are stuffed away. I hate to put on new ballasts, but I have read they often fail more than the lamps themselves.

Default If it happens with all sources...

...then I'd think it's something in the assembly. Moving the source fwd/aft will affect focus of course, so maybe the bulb isn't getting the right fit??

Thats what I am thinking too. But I can not find a reference for this issue and see noting to adjust. Yesterday I removed the lamp and inspected for anything that could interfere with the seating and all was good. I hate to have to open up the housing itself.

Default Hmmmm.....

...that's a mystery. Have you tried swapping bulbs left to right and noting the difference?

I did when the Wagner lamps. But now with a third lamp in there, same issue, I can only assume its the housing not the lamps.

I just found a video online that *might* help. Seven minutes in he talks about a lever for adjusting the housing form LHD to RDH. It moves a cut-off shutter. This is on a sport housing and its not adaptive (mine are adaptive). But I wonder if there is something in the LR3 housings that do the same. And if so maybe if the lever is in an odd position its messing with the pattern. I will have to look again. Glad the housing come out so quickly on these LR3s.

Replaced both lamps a few months a go and I notice when looking at the truck while the follow me cycle is on, that the bulbs appear different in color, one more blue and one more amber... slight difference but it's there.
