Default Is LR3 and LR4 fan (plastic fan part, not viscous clutch) the same?

I have 2 broken fins on my fan. Viscous clutch seems fine as far as I can tell. Local salvage yard has an LR3 and 3x LR4s. Is the plastic fan part the same between the two models? If I can't source a salvage LR3 fan, will an LR4 fan do? Obviously, I would be separating the clutch from the fan and swapping the fan to my good LR3 clutch. (This worked great when I needed to replace the clutch on my DII.

Thanks!

Bring your old one in the junk yard and compare? At first glance they do look very similar. Even the clutches look similar. I am looking on eBay to compare. I personally would think it worth the gamble. Also some yards do let you return stuff. But like I said, bring your old one in and compare then you know.

Mahle’s ecat lists them with different part numbers. One has 7 blades, the other has 9. The diameter seems to be the same, however. The operating principle for one is listed as thermic (D3) while the D4 one is electronic. The list of supported vehicles does not include both vehicles for the same fan type.

- Fan, D4
- Fan, D3

I have never, ever seen a D3 look like what you linked to.

Honestly I haven’t either 😂

Mahle’s eCat doesn’t tend to be wrong, however. That is where one ends up if looking at fans with the D3 part numbers.

I never used it, I use this for finding part numbers:

Big duh, directed at me. I’m an idiot. I did take pictures and measurements. I’m not in the habit of carrying parts in, but why not?!

Almost got lucky: there was a LR3 with the fan still in it, loosened it without effort, and I was pretty pumped until I spun it around and it had one chipped blade. Ran out of time to check the LR4s as I was up against a wife-imposed deadline and wanted to grab the TPMS module, since it was still there.

Not looking forward to that install—that far mounting bolt seems like it will be impossible to reach. I’ve read the procedure before, but can't remember what people said about it now.

I’ll return tomorrow with my fan in-hand. This yard is 5 minutes away—they almost never have Rovers, so I feel a bit spoiled at the moment.
